What is Random Book of Kindness?

Random Book of Kindness was launched in 2020 by our founder Lynsey after being inspired during the first Covid-19 enforced nationwide lockdown. Lynsey started to spread a little bit of happiness to those she cared about whilst not being able to see them in person by completing surprise random acts of kindness. As a book worm herself, a lover of sending unexpected hand written cards and a fan of anything sentimental and personalised, A Random Book of Kindness was created.

All our gifts are designed to be both recycled and recyclable. The book is the centrepiece which is handpicked and pre-loved.

All the gifts and treats are locally sourced near our base in North Wales from small, independent businesses with Bird & Blend tea being the exception, but when you see this independent businesses ethos and eco credentials you will understand why we went a little bit further a field.

All of our packaging is made from recycled paper and card and by

re-using it all to pay the kindness forward, not only are you doing some good for someone you care about but you are doing some good for the planet too.

"During the Coronavirus lockdown I witnessed all of the amazing work that NHS and key workers were doing, and was inspired to do some good in such tough times. Although I couldn't do much to help the medical situation, what I could do was to spread some happiness to those I care about.

I started dedicating a 5km Gratitude run every day to someone or something I was grateful for. It ranged from old school friends I hadn't seen for years, friends who were fighting cancer all the way through to Naked Gardening day (1st May in case you were wondering!), and I started those 100 days thinking of and thanking those who inspired me and who I wanted to show gratitude to.

The response I received was fantastic and the messages of encouragement I had from those who read the dedications made me want to help others to send their own random acts of kindness."

Local and sustainable

We are proud to use local small businesses, independent retailers and sustainable products in each of our gifts. From the company we use to create the brand stamp for our boxes planting a tree for every stamp made, to the filling in the boxes being recycled tissue paper which is biodegradable and eco friendly, each aspect of our boxes have been responsibly sourced.

This is the perfect opportunity for us to give a well deserved shout out to some amazing businesses who, as well as us, do a little happy dance each time a Random Book of Kindness gift is bought:

Books - The centrepiece of each gift is the pre loved book. These have been sourced locally from second hand book shops and has given Lynsey an enormous amount of pleasure picking each book herself.

Gratitude journals - After completing her 100th Gratitude Run one of Lynsey's friends sent her a Gratitude Journal to keep her gratitude going after her dedications ended. This journal became part of the inspiration behind Random Book of Kindness and led to Lynsey designing a daily gratitude journal specifically for the inclusion within a Random Book of Kindness gift.

Coffee bags - For our coffee option we use The Lost Barn coffee roasters who roast their coffee near to our base just over the boarder in Cheshire. Their coffee is ethically sourced, sustainably supplied and mouth wateringly delicious. They have also kindly supplied us with their specially created charity blend, The Rescue Blend with profits being donated to North Wales East Mountain Rescue organisation.

Chocolate - We loved taste testing for this treat! Sarah Bunton award winning chocolatier's chocolate is handmade in Wales and is delicious. We use Sarah Bunton's products for both the chocolate bars and the hot chocolate stirrers.....enjoy!

Tea and Herbal tea - Bird and Blend are an award winning independent tea company whose aim is 'to bring happiness to people through tea'. 95% of their packaging is plastic free, recyclable or biodegradable and their tea bags are 100% plastic-free, 100% natural and 100% compostable. Their tea also tastes wonderful!
